Denny-

Yeah, I checked the prompt and the command a dozen times, but could see no errors.

Basssoon,

If you are at a C:\windows\system32\dllcache> prompt when you enter copy LSASS.EXE C:\windows\system32\LSASS.EXE and receive that error it means that the file does not exist in the dllcache folder. Are you actually at that precise prompt (make sure there have been no typos)?

Bassoon,

Okay, then put the file in the dllcache folder. Open Recovery Console and enter the following, substituting the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive for X:

expand X:\i386\lsass.ex_ c:\windows\system32\dllcache\lsass.exe

There is a space after "ex_" and before "c:". Once the file is in dllcache the Dell KB instructions should work.

I typed the command on the c:\windows prompt and it said the command wasn't valid, so I put a space between expand and X and then the file wasn't available.  I also tried from the c:\windows\system32\dllcache prompt, but it had the same response.

Bassoon,

I assume you did change the X to the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive and that the Windows XP Reinstallation CD was in the drive, right? (If not, there would have been a different error.)
