LSASS.exe - unable to locate component

Question

While reading emails in outlook express today I got a hard memory dump blue screen and upon rebooting my Insipron 2650 running XP home OS,  I got this message: 'LSASS.EXE - unable to locate component'  * 'DNSAPI.dll was not found - The application has failed to start because DNSAPI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.' Needless to say the boot sequence stops at this point, even thought the cursor is still active. I followed a procedure from a similar post and a knowledge base article #H01066358, which was to boot from XP floppies and copy the LSASS.exe file over again. I did this without error and rebooted but the same exact message appears. Not sure what to do next. This is my first post so I hope I have included enough info for a reply. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Drew

I checked this out but I have no boot capability to try any of these steps. Shoudl I go to the last resort and try and reload the OS? I would like to try other measures if available before I resort to that step.

Any another suggestion - I did what the Dell Kb but it still hangs with the LSASS.exe error? Any/all assistance would be most appreciated. Thanks,Drew

Unfortunatley teh repair of the OS ran into issues. At 47% of copying files it hit the file names "prodspec.ini" and couldn't copy it form teh XP home CD I hit eac and it proceeded to error out on 8 more files. TI finished copying and then rebooted and came back up with the LASS.exe error.

I think I am going to start over from scratch this weekend.
