Lexmark Printer

Frequently, the lexmark icon in the icon tray changes from a red diamond to
a red "X" and nothing will print. It seems to happen for no reason and is
quite annoying. When I re-install the software it works again. But there
must be something that is causing this.

You didn't say which model Lexmark, but scan through the many Lexmark posts on the External Peripherals section of the forum.  There are many posts with Lexmark interface (communications) problems.  Updating the Lexmark drivers seems to help some, using the front panel USB port seems to help some and with some there is nothing that seems to help.  It's not a Dell issue, I have cusromers, that I support, with other brands of PC's and various Windows Operating Systems and they have the same problems.  One customer went to the extreme and dumped his Lexmark for a HP and no more problems.

Hi

I have the same computer configuration as you, and a lexmark all in one x85 printer. It was doing me the same way, sometimes it would work, the next time it would say it couldn't communicate with printer. Or that it didn't recognize having one attached. I contacted lexmark and they sent me an e-mail with a link to a small piece of software or driver to install and I haven't had anymore problems.  Hope this helps
