Local Disk (C:) Open With ...Choose Program

Windows XP

using START > My Computer > when i click on Local Disk (C:) it goes to "Open With...Choose the program" as if it were trying to open a file!

however, when using the ADDRESS toolbar at the top or the FOLDERS toolbar at the side, it lets me navigate thru to Local Disk (C:) as normal.

i had a Virus problem recently which has been controlled as far as possible with Norton.

any help is much appreciated.

thanks,
david sutherland

When it ask you for a program, select EXPLROER.EXE
I think it is unde:
C:\Windows\
or
C:\Windows\System32

that works, thanks, but the checkbox to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is not available so i need to do this EVERY TIME!!! recently, when i try to open some other file folders, the SEARCH function kicks in to play! i think there's a virus problem here!

What if you go to My Computer, then to Tools menu, then Folder options.
Go to File Types, do the same  I told you for the HDD

ok, i went there and it doesnt let me CHANGE
so i chose the ADVANCED tab
where it had FIND as the default ACTION
then i used BROWSE to configure EXPLORER as the program
and set it to DEFAULT.

but...unfortunately it's still doing the same thing.

i still think this is a virus-related problem as when i click on other folders to open them using explorer sometimes the SEARCH function kicks into play instead of opening up the folder!!! very strange!

well, i did that and it gave a positive "succesful" message response

but, however, the problem still remains!

i'm going to reboot to see if that helps

Hi Escocia1,
Try this and let me know if it does NOT work.

For the drive: open a command prompt window and type "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll".

Note: The command is without quotation marks.

Thanks & Regards,
Dard-e-Ishq.
