Log On Screen at Start
I used to be automatically logged on until I got MS Net Framework 1.1 AND SP2, and then I started to get the log on screen. I'd have to say it's pretty annoying to do this, when I'm the ONLY user of this computer.
From what I understand (from reading archived posts), is that I'll need to run a "userpassword2" program to set up an automatic log on to the desktop. The problem is that I can't remember if I do or don't have a password when I intially upgraded to XP home.
walk-through, advice or suggestion is welcome!

I haven't done this in a whille, but as I recall, the solution is to just delete the account that was added by NetFramework. You really don't need it unless you are a developer.

When I log on, I never have to use a password, I just click on my name, and it takes me to a welcome screen and then desktop.
Now, if I want to automatically log on, I'll have to enter in a password in the setup program..? Hmmm.
I'll give this a try.

Here are the MS instuctions:

If you have no password then this should apply near the bottom of the KB article. All I have unchecked is # 3 below and get auto logon:
You can also use turn on automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional on a computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, and then click Run.2.In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.3.Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, then click Apply.4.In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.5.Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.lmb59

Just letting you know that the link provided a solution, but not without a little troubleshooting as to why I kept having the logon screen. I used chuket's advice, and then Denny's solution, but I kept getting the logon screen. So I went back to the "control userpasswords2" program to tick the User back in, and this time I've got the Welcome screen and then the desktop.
Now....if I can get rid of the Welcome screen..... :)
thanks for the link!
