MDAC error, can someone help?
I have a Vertex rate program loaded on my system that I update monthly with the current tax rates. I haven't had any problems until this month, when I couldn't access the data. So I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, and during the reinstallation I received this 'Fatal Error Message':
Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 is already installed on the version of Windows that you are running. Setup cannot update the system. For more information about updating Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 on your system, see the download page relating to this release of MDAC 2.5 on the web page
http://www.microsoft.com/data
.
I'm running WinXP.
I've tried downloading 2.5 from the MS site, and I get the same error message as above.
I've downloaded the MS Component Checker and it came up as MDAC 2.8 sp1 on WinXP sp2.
Can anyone help? Please?
Thanks,
Amy

It sounds like the program you are trying to reinstall is either looking for a specific version of the MDAC or trying to modify the 2.5 version and with v2.8, apparently on your system that is causing the program installation problem.
Check the software vendor of the program and see if they have anything on this. It may be a known problem and a fix is posted on their site.
