Just do a Windows update and this will tell you if there are any more patches needed.

Yes you do. However,  after installing NET Framework 2.0 I ran Norton's System Works check-up. It found ten errors relating to a missing "msvcr80.dll" under program integrity. I searched my computer and found it, but not in the System32 folder. I googled for info and found others with a similar problem but not related to NET Framework 2.0. Their "msvcr80.dll" was in the same place as mine. When they copied it to the System32 folder they no longer had errors in their applications. At this point I deleted 2.0 and will wait and see what happens.

.NET framework 1.1 and 2.0 install and run along side each other independently (and can be uninstalled separately as well). Which is used depends on the app. Most current apps were built using .NET framework 1.1; some of these may run if 2.0 is installed and 1.1 uninstalled, others may not (I have one that definitely doesn't, three that do). So it is probably better to keep both. New apps will most likely use 2.0.
