You should explain your Internet connection setup to get more help --dialup, cable, dsl, wireless, your ISP, etc.

can anybody please tell me if I can format windows vista to install windows xp. Since all the laptops that come now are with vista, which I don't want. I have heard that it is not possible to remove vista and install xp from the laptop. Thanks in advance.

My board name says it all- "my brain is lost".:smileymad: I just wish now that it was lost when I ordered my laptop 3 weeks ago with Vista Business instead of XP that had worked beautifully for the past 3 years!

Yesterday, everything was going great! Then Microsoft loaded updates to my system automatically last night , that is where it all started! At precisely 2:39PM today, I logged onto my laptop to work on my new website and I got a message stating:

The Windows Vista Product Key you entered is not valid! Please re-enter the product key. I proceeded to enter the product key on the back of the laptop, but then I got the same message!(Please keep in mind, I was not trying to validate or change a product key, I just tried to log onto my laptop the same way that I have for 3 weeks!)

I then called customer service support. After spending several minutes on hold, a very nice gentleman in India helped me try to get this thing working again. He put me on hold and tried to reach Microsoft to confirm that I had a validated Vista Business Program with a valid key. He then told me he was switched to several departments and no one would help him!  I then gave him full control of my laptop in India, and we ended up setting the system back to the original factory settings, just like the day I took it out of the shipping box!

My brain is now lost somewhere in beautiful, humid, extremely hot, South Carolina. I have spent 7 hours and 15 minutes trying to reload all of my programs that were lost today. I have just come to terms with the understanding that I actually lost my brain on that wonderful day that I ordered the Windows Vista Business operating system instead of the XP that had served me so well for so long.

If you find my lost brain, please return to me as soon as possible. I need it to finish loading the rest of my lost files and programs. By the way, you can keep any remnant of Microsoft Vista that may still be in the lost brain.

Long live Windows XP!

Well, I would never allow Microsoft permission to install things on my PC until I review them first.

This sounds like the dreaded Intel Matrix Driver problem. This is not all Microsofts problem but it is an issue with the driver. Google search it; this is a widely known issue.

I wonder WHICH KB is causing this problem. ANYBODY have an 'in' with MS or a good phone number or email addy?!?!?!!?
My system is HOSED now. I wondered if an update did it. I cant see how turning off UAC ( a real pain) would invalidate a LEGIT key/install?!?!?!?!?

Sounds like what just happened to my system 2 days ago.  There is a VISTA reinstall/repair technique I will try FIRST. I have SO MANY things on my system that redoing it from scratch would be an NORMOUS pain.  TOO many things to reunstall from scratch is reqd ;-(
Out of the blue it said that the systemwas NOT genuine when I bought the upgrade MONTHS ago. Attempted to reinstall keys that I have-ALL LEGIT-100% licensed and it said they were alreday being used
Called MS got someone who didnt speak ENGLISH as a primary languzge and told me it was a DELL problem. I said NO it is a software problem. Then a hang up
