Memory can not be written error message

Question

Hi I get this error message the instruction at '0x72847103' refrenced memory at '0x00000058'. The memory could not be 'written.' When I try to open MS Paint I get that message and it says i have to click OK to terminate program. I get similar message with other programs. I use a program called ACDSee I get that message everytime I close the program also sometimes when I use my instant messenger program GAIM I get that message and the program has to be closed and then I have to reopen it. Also when I shut down my computer when it says 'Windows is shutting down' I get that same error message. What could it be? I've done Virus Check, Spyware check and i still have same problem.

Try write clicking on the application icon and select 'run it in compatibility mode for windows 98/ME' see if that corrects the problem.

I've heard that ACDsee has trouble running on XP. You might try their web site for updates. To run in compatibility mode, right click on the program's exe file, go to Compatibility tab and choose Win 95 or 98. That might not work, but is worth a try. Look up Compatibility in Help.
