In Outlook Express (now called Windows Mail) go to File, Work Offline, then delete the stuck message. This is really for Office's Outlook, but should work in Windows Mail, too. Then go back and uncheck Work Offline.

It needs to be "smtp", not smpt.
If this wasn't a typo, thats your problem.
Check it out,

same prob and I fixed it.....finally.  This has been an ongoing problem for many for some time.

You need to delete a file called windowsmail.messagestore.

First you need to unhide your hidden and protected system files.

Then go to users/'username'/appdate/local/microsoft/windowsmail

Delete the file from there then go to the 'backup folder' in that folder.

There is another copy of windowsmail.messagestore there.  delete it.

Exit windows and restart winmail  It will rebuild windows mail and you will also get a new directory of recovered messages.  You can move your messages back to the appropriate boxes and delete this.

Good luck!!!  You have no idea how many people have been trying to find this fix and for how long.... I cant believe it works.

You guys are already more help than 6 hrs on the phone.

I have this problem and am no "techie".  I have a couple of questions.

1.  How do I get to the file "users/.............." mentioned above?  I have unhidden the files.

2.  If I "unstick" this one message is that likely to correct my greater problem?  That is:  my outgoing email all goes to the "outbox" and sits until I delete or get it sent by trial and error.

3. If this does not allow my email to send (I can recieve), what is the solution?

Thanks

Thanks.  After 4 more hours with Dell Support (an oxymoron?) I just tried again.  I did find the file earlier but could not delete it.  The message said it was open and could not be shared.  I tried to end sharing and got the message that I could not end the sharing.

Total frustration!  Dell did get the outbox emptied but I still can not send email.

I am just switching to another email application until I can return the entire system to Dell for a refund or new system with XP.

Thanks, I am glad to know there are others being victimized by Dell on this matter.
