Microsoft Product Activation Error Code: 00110003

My Linksys Media Centre Extender is giving me the following error "There is a problem with the Microsoft Product Activation on the Media Center PC.  Error Code: 00110003". Linksys tells me to call Microsoft. Microsoft tells me to contact Dell since it came pre-installed. I can no longer connect my Linksys Media Centre Extender to my Windows XP Media Centre 2005 PC. Apparently ot is an issue with XP since its a Microsoft Product Activation error. Anyone out there have this problem or know how to fix it? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the media centre extender as well as reinstalled the windows xp media center. Help! It worked fine for almost a year.

JayWalt,

Don't know if this will help, but it's one of the few things I could find relating to Windows Product Activation that applied to firewalls and and other devices like your Linksys Extender.

Windows Product Activation uses the following ports: 80 - HTTP  443 - HTTPS

For Windows Product Activation to succeed, configure firewalls or other devices that are between the client and the Internet to allow traffic to pass over ports 80, and 443.

You can use Internet Explorer or other Internet browsers to test connectivity through these ports.

To test whether port 80 is open:
1.Open Internet Explorer.Type http://www.microsoft.com:80 in the Address bar, and then press ENTER.2.Type http://www.microsoft.com:80 in the Address bar, and then press ENTER.

To test whether port 443 is open:
1.Open Internet Explorer.Type https://www.microsoft.com:443 in the Address bar, and then press ENTER.2.Type https://www.microsoft.com:443 in the Address bar, and then press ENTER.
If you can access the Microsoft Web site each time, ports 80 and 443 are accessible.

If your browser displays an error message such as "connection timed out," the corresponding port may be blocked

Also, if you have Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, it may be part of the problem:

And for those who have Media Center 2002, here's another WPA problem:  http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811632

Port 443 is blocked I guess. I cannot get http://www.microsoft.com:443 to open. How do I go about opening up that port?

Jason,

For port 443, its https://www.microsoft.com:443.  Designates that it's a secure site.
