Microsoft Word 2003: View and Layout settings

Hi, it seems each year or so MSW tries to make things more convenient for me but it actaully doesn't.  I need to know how to set my MSW 2003 to remember my format setting.

I always want my word documents in:

view: 'normal'

'page layout'

And i have to change this each time i go in.  I'm not fond of the new viewing it defaults to.
