Migrating from XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro
I have a Dell Optiplex 360 that came with XP Pro preinstalled and a licensed copy of Windows 7. I have both OS CDs. However no documentation was included as to how to do the upgrade and I can't find anything on this site. When I insert the Windows 7 disk, it says it is installed but that is not correct as it is running XP Pro. I feel like a dunce but haven't dealt with computers running dual operating systems or done a OS upgrade in over 10 years. How do I get this computer running Windows 7?

You can't do an "in-place" upgrade from XP to 7, so you need to do a "clean" install of Windows 7. Just BOOT to the Windows 7 DVD to get started (backup your important data first so you can restore it later, and make sure to delete all existing partitions (that are not strictly "data" partitions).
