Modem and COM1 preventing Standby and Hibernation

Maybe you can think of a solution to this problem:

I am trying to fix a problem in the computer. It will not go into standby or hibernation mode because an error message comes up saying that the modem device driver and COM 1 are preventing it from going into standby and should be updated. There are no updates for this modem driver though and so what I do is uninstall and reinstall the modem and COM 1. When I do this, the computer will go into standby but as soon as you reboot it reverts back to the same error message. I've looked for solutions in the microsoft database and in the Intel database (it's an intel modem) but I couldn't find anything. I checked to see if there were any settings set in the BIOS allowing the computer to wake up by anything other than the keyboard or mouse but there wasn't. Of course I checked all the advanced power settings too. Can you think of anything?
Thanks.
