.NET framework 2.0 required but wont install DELL XPS windows7 64Bit

When I turn on my DELL XPS i7 64Bit  Windows-7     it tells me I need to install .NET framework version 2.0     I have tried to install the x86 version the IA64 version but none of them will install, they either say .net framework 2.0 is already installed as part of the O/S or that this version is not compatible with this 64Bit computer. Its driving me nuts.   Please help

Paul Scourfield,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

According to this thread: social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../f983b4e9-ab63-4497-a20a-9acc0df83fd9

For Windows 7, .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 is shipped with it as one of OS component.

For .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1, it includes .NET 2.0 with SP2 and .NET 3.0 with SP2 as prerequisite.

This means, you have the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 plus a few post 3.5 SP1 bug fixes on Windows 7. They are OS components . We don't need to manually install it.

Please use Verification Tool  to verify .Net Framework 2.0. If .Net Framework 2.0 cannot be verified on your computer, you can try to follow the steps mentioned in the following blog to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 on Windows 7.

See: blogs.msdn.com/.../how-to-repair-the-net-framework-2-0-and-3-0-on-windows-vista.aspx  (also apply to Windows 7)

PaulScourfield,

Are you trying to install a printer when you get this error message?

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Error After Upgrading to Windows 7

Thanks for your response,

No, I am not trying to install a printer, I am booting a brand new DELL XPS 64Bit i7 laptop with Windows7.  A dialog pops up saying that .NET Framework 2.0 is required and can be downloaded from the MIcrosoft downloads site.

However when I run the verification tool for the .NET Framework it says that .NET Framework version 2.0, 3.0, 3.51 and 4.0 all verify correctly and are therefore all installed, as I believe as part of the Operating System in this case Windows7.

My only option is to now run the repair tool on a machine that I do not believe has a corrupt version of .Net Framework.

But something is obviously wrong.

Is this a problem with a 32Bit app running on a 64Bit .Net Framework 2.0 ???

I am not sure what app is causing the error to appear.

Any help welcome.

PaulScourfield,

Let's try a different approach.

Click start. In search type

internet

You should see three versions on Internet Explorer.

Use the version of Internet Explorer that does NOT have the (64-bit) after it. This does not support flash player. I'm thinking it may also give you the .net framework error.

PaulScourfield,

I just had a new hard drive installed. I just checked, since I have everything updated and I have only .net Framework 4 Client Profile installed.

I was about to post an image of the dialog that shows the error, but I then had a thought.  If I run TaskManager I can see the application listed that the window belongs to.  If I right click on the Application entry I can then go to the process in the process list that the Error window belongs to.  I turned out to be lxwamon.exe*32   which is part of the Lexmark printer driver software.  So I now know its a lexmark issue and nothing is wrong with my .NET Framework 2.0 that the Lexmark printer driver cant detect.

Here's an image of the error dialog just in case you are curious,

thanks to all who contributed.

PaulScourfield,

The information I provided about the printer was for Dell Printers made for Dell by Lexmark.

First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Uninstall the printer, start, control panel, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.

Restart your computer. Make sure the pritner was removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Try downloading the drivers from Lexmark's website. If you have problems installing, try installing the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode Once you install the drivers, you'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

The printer should work and the error message should be gone.

KYLEISAWESOME,

First run Delete Print Jobs then restart your computer.

Then follow the instructions at Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Error After Upgrading to Windows 7

I just had the same thing happen to me  on WIN 8 .Net version 4.5 The software requires .net 4.0 or above but won't install on 4.5.  It is 64 Bit software. I tried the compatibility wizards but they don't work.

RockDR53,

Do you have a Lexmark, Dell or another printer you installed?

Was this an upgrade for the operating system?

I'm not sure if .NET 4.0 is built into Windows 8, but you might try installing it.
