According to the System Requirements on the Microsoft web site, XP is not supported and thus the reason it won't install on an XP system.

This is the listed OS's:

"Operating system: 32- or 64-bit version of Windows 7, or Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 and the Platform Update for Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 and the Platform Update for Windows Server 2008."

All I can go by is the Microsoft listed requirements.    XP, SP2 is no longer supported by Microsoft, you have to have SP3 and even then it's minimal support.  Update to SP3 and then it MAY install but no guarantee.

You might want to install the latest Windows installer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942288
