Need to upgrade to Win XP SP2 to run Internet Explorer 8

Forum,

I am currently running a Dell Latitude X200 and attempting to update the current operating system from XP Pro 1 to XP Pro Service Pack 2 or higher so that I may update Internet Explorer from version 6 to version 8. I have used the Microsoft upgrade website and tried the downloads to install XP Pro SP2 but I get the message that the upgrade cannot be competed because the x64-bit edition cannot be installed because I am currently running the 32-bit version. The upgrade to IE8 is needed because I can no longer access many websites with IE6 because it is no longer supported.

I have tried the following fixes:

Install XP Pro Version 1a: (same result)

Install XP Pro Version 3 (same result)

Install XP Pro SP 1a 32-bit and 2 from bootable disk (server not responding)

What are other options out there to get XP Pro SP2 so I can make the jump to IE8?

Hi techexec007,

You will need to install the 32-bit version of Windows XP Service Pack 2. You can download Windows XP Service Pack 2 from the following link:

You can also visit the Microsoft Service Pack Center for further information on Service Packs for Windows:

Please let me know if you need further assistance.
