Delete it from Task Scheduler in Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks. There is also a setting in Disk Doctor/System Works to auto start at boot that you should remove. You should not allow it to start at every boot anyway. XP has fine tools for disk checking and DD is no longer needed.

Hi Sapient

If you are using Win Xp click on start/run and type in msconfig and then OK it. It opens "System Configuration Utility" and under start up tab you can choose to disable(uncheck) Norton.

sorry to cut you Mary. It took me sometime to post.

I appreciate your responses and your help.  Before even posting to this forum  I did everything you have suggested and more.

XP does not boot to Windows, it runs before windows actually loads.

In order to get around this I disconnected the second drive and booted on the primary to load Windows.  Because Norton does not see DRIVE F: it of course never tried running the PRE-LOAD DiskDoctor.

I went as far as to disable everything in startup (msconfig) and went to the XP Task Scheduler and removed all.  I have nothing but the Virus Checker loading at startup as far as Norton is concerned.  I also attempted to uninstall Norton System Works (It failed because DISK F: was not present).  I hooked Drive F: back up and booted.  Wala Norton Preload DiskDoctor started again.

I have been a Software Engineer for 21 years and have to say this has got me frustrated more than Linux, AIX and UNIX combined.

I would appreciate any other suggestions one might have.  Because this runs before loading XP, I am down as far as this machine is concerned.  It has been running close to 24 hours now!!!!  Perhaps a gun or a big hammer.  ;)

Update, fix found.

I had to remove an entry from the Registry.  Lesson learned...  Norton is great for Virus protection.  However, System Works will not be on my Christmas list anytime in the future.

Thanks for the support.
