Norton OEM?? What do I do?
My mother has a 4600 that came with Norton AV/Security, but I do NOT see an CDROM or anything in case it needs to be reinstalled. Firstly, is this weird? Should there be one? I know I didn't pay any attention when we got our Dell since I has a more updated version (retail) i wanted to use.
So, anyway..now it is time to renew her subscription and it is asking for the version. Can I renew with an OEM Version? When I go to "ABOUT NORTON", it tells me really nothing. Under the history it is totally showing NOTHING being installed on this computer (which isn't true....I use it all the time). I don't have a seriel number...only a pd subscription number from before, a OEM string of numbers (version) that looks like an IP address (with the dots), and some sort of acct. number. I have tried ALL numbers I have been given, but nothing is working. Now WTFH?? Where do I get this seriel number thing to renew????
UGH! Help!

If it helps at all - if you purchase Norton Anti Virus/Internet Security etc on line at www.symantec.com and get the extended warranty with it , you can re-download it at anytime for a period of 12 months.

In YOUR opinion, are we better off going out and buying a retail version of this or just keep what is here and pay the $25 again.

No, it's not weird, merely unacceptable (but it's Dell's latest policy). See if this helps.

You wrote, "I should add that this PC was purchased back in like spring of 94....does that make a difference on whether or not the CD should be here? "
Frankly, I am amazed that you bought that model 11 years ago. It does make a difference--Dell provided CDs for everything installed on the system in 1994.
In my initial post I provided a link for you to use to request a copy of the software on CD.

Carrie,
I bought my Dell is 04 also. It too came with Norton Internet Security and a 90 day trial. I like to have disks with my programs so I deleted the Norton Internet Security and went out and bought Norton Anti Virus 2004. Norton Internet Security seemed to block too many programs. I prefer to have a Firewall and just the Anti Virus without the extras. By the way, I didn't get any disks with my pc either. If my computer crashes I lose all the software that is on it, except software that I purchased.

As I said, 1994 was a good year. You got everything back then.

You're not related to Ray and Tom Magliozzi, are you?

Not so fast ... surely you remember WFWG 3.11. Man, I use to see blue screens in my sleep back in those days.
Thanks again. This thread made my day.
