'Not a valid Win32 application'

Question

I am having problems with my new Dell Inspiron 530 Vista OS.  I recently purchased and downloaded an Ebooks System Flip Album application...fasuitevs.exe...but when i tried to install it I got the error message: 'fasuitevs.exe' is not a valid Win32application' ??? I have no idea why this is so.  I had been using the standard FlipAlbum 5.5 application on my Dell Dimensions 2400 for years but when I purchased the inspiron 530 with Vista OS I was told that I needed the Vista version of FlipAlbum so I paid for and downloaded that version (fasuitevs.exe) and now find that I cannot install it 'because it is not a valid win32 application' ??? How can I make it so...or what can I do?

2 reasons   1. It really is an invalid win32 application   2. The file is corrupt  (usually the cause), download it again.

Hi

Try to install it in XP SP2 compatible mode

and see of it will work for you .

Right click on 'fasuitevs.exe' then select proprieties

on the drop down the select the compatibility tab

put a check in the box by run this program in compatibility

XP service pack 2 mode , then go back and try to install it again

OK...I did what you suggested (and there WAS a compatibility tab for XP SP2 which I checked) but when I tried to open the file I got the same 'fasuitevs.exe is not a valid win32 application' error message as before.

Someone else has suggested that it MAY in fact not be a valid win32 application and/or the file may be corrupt. I am going to pursue this with the vendor.

Hi....   Before I even try what you are suggesting I need to ask 'what does XP SP2' have to do with my Vista OS? If I were still with the WinXP OS I probably would not be having this problem.

I couldn't agree with you more about Vista going away. I wanted to keep WinXP on my new computer but everyone advised against it.

I have the feeling that it is NOT the application but rather something having to do with the way my new computer is configured.

See C3PO5's post about opening the application in SP SVP2 mode. Will that work in Vista OS?

Doubt it, but you can try.

There are only 2 reasons for that particular error as stated earlier. Corruption of the file is the most prevalent reason. Can you download it from another source, or contact the company about the issue?

I ran into this very issue before myself, and downloaded the file i needed from another source and it worked.

You may be right...I am not sure that the file is available from another download source but I am going to contact the vendor and look into it.   Thanks.

Problem solved. Suggestion by vendor to turn off firewall during downloading did the trick. File was apparently being corrupted by firewall remaining on. Application is now up and running. Should have known better...sometimes the simplest explanations are the best ones.

Thats a new feature, corrupt the download instead of blocking it!   What firewall was it?

The firewall was Windows One Care ... I am not sure that the firewall was the case...all I know is that I suspended the firewall temporarily on a suggestion by the vendor and that after downloading the application while firewall inoperative I did NOT get the same 'invalid win32 error message' and I was able to successfully download and INSTALL the application without further problem.  Could be some other factor at work but all I know is that it worked.  Note: I should have mentioned that in previous failed installations in addition to the 'invalid win32' error message I ALSO was getting the following message: 'Cannot create C:\windows\system32\vemlx32.dll'. for whatever that is worth...would that indicate a corruption?  None of these messages occurred after the successful download with the firewall suspended.
