This error has been reported recently by someone whose file association was corrupted. What is the file name of the attachment to the email? If it does not have the extension .txt (which I suspect it doesn't) that is the problem.

Do a search for Notepad.exe on your computer, making sure that system files and hidden files are included in your search. Is it still present on your computer?

The file does have the notation extension.txt I have searched the C drive, but the file Notepad.exe cannot be found. Is this something that came on WindowsME and has been deleted? How can I get it back.

You can extract notepad.exe from the Windows ME reinstallation CD using the procedure here. Place it in C:\Windows.

The entry should be C:\Windows\Notepad.exe
