OS key codes
Can somebody give a simple explanation why the Microsoft XP-Pro key code that's on the sticker isn't the same as when you use a "Keycode finder" program? My Dell laptop from April 2005 and my XPS400 from November 2005 have the same "internal" keycodes, but different stickers, of course. And then, does it make a difference which one you use when you re-install the OS?
Another question - can somebody tell me an easy way to find a message, or a thread that you started? Didn't you used to have a "personnal" page where you could find all the threads you posted to? I'm still looking! Do I have to keep bookmarking every thread?

Dell uses a volume key code when it pre install Windows. That is what you see if you search for the key code using a key finder.
The one on the box can be used if reinstalling a non Dell OEM version.
If you install from a Dell reinstall disk that matches to original OS, you will not need to input a product key in most cases.
About the threads you have posted in... Look for Expand User Panel. Choose that, and you can access a list of your posts. You may need to choose Your Activity and / or View All after the panel is expanded.

I thought it had to do with a volume producer, but was never quite sure of what it meant to a user. That explains why sometimes the key code is required but other times it's not (I've done several). Thanks.
Yes, I see "Expand User Panel"......now. Not too prominent; hiding in plain sight, even with my glasses on. Thank you.
