OS troubles

Hi.

I have an old (but still relatively good) dell pc. It is a Dell Dimension 5150 and is beginning to seriously mess up. I have tried all the system clean up tools and system restore a few times now but after much deliberation I have decided the only way forth is a full system format. I cant however seem to access my factory partition. CTRL F11 does not work for whatever reason and I dont have the original recovery CD. Is there any way for me to retrieve another recovery disk. The original (and current) OS is Windows XP SP 2.

Thanks for your help and kind regards,

Gary Conboy

Older computers did not use F11 and might not even have a recovery partition. After so much time your only option is to reinstall from disk. First--you need to check your hard drive. It might need replacing and no use reinstalling windows on a failing hard drive. Boot to the Dell Diagnostics and run the extended hard drive test. Order another set of disks by filling out the form here: support.dell.com/.../backupcd_form and then follow the directions for doing a Manual Install here: support.dell.com/.../document

Note my wiki A Clean Install of Windows XP may also be of some use to you, it can be found in my wiki list.
