I've got a problem with Office Excel 2003. I have an old document that is made in an earlier version of Excel. I'm not what version exactly, but it's Excel 97, 2000 or XP. Most likely some of the two first.

Does anybody know if there exists some kind of converter that converts values and calculations from older Excel versions into the Excel 2003 version?

I tried to post this in the Microsoft Office forum, but nobody knew anything about it so instead I'm trying here...

News to me that Excel won't automatically convert it's own files.  However, if you go to Add/Remove Programs and click on Office, you will find converters listed and can see if there is one you need to add from your CDs.  Office NORMALLY will tell you that a converter is needed and offer to install it.

Are you sure it's Excel?  What's the file extension?

Well, the file extension is .xls so it has to be Excel...The file I'm trying to open was made in a 2000 (9.0) version of Excel I just found out.

Actually, it doesn't have to be Excel.  If it was created in another package, it could have been saved as an .xls file, and perhaps their format back then isn't compatible today.  Or, someone could have renamed it.

XLS is valid for current Excel, and I saw no converters on the list for "old" Excel.

I have contacted the one who made this file and he says it was created with Excel 2000 version (9.0) and it was saved as a normal Excel-file. (.xls)...
