Oops! How can I get around the Windows XP password login?

We are not sure what happened, but two days ago, my wife's laptop stopped letting her sign in.

Here is what I have:

Me: Dimension 4100 desktop (XP Pro)

Wife: Compaq EVO N1000c (XP Pro)  Hey, the Compaq is what they issued at the office, you know?

Kid #1: Dimension 2350 (XP Home)

Kid #2: Dimension 2350 (XP Home)

All four units are on a wired network, connected by a Linksys router to cable internet.

What I have done to date is run Spybot on the three desktops.  Lots of critters on the kids computers -- mine was mostly clean.  No viruses.

But I still can't log into the wife's laptop.  We don't know if something has corrupted in the system, or what.

Is there a way to get around the password protected login part of the boot process?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

RickWinger,

If your wife's system is rejecting her password and thus you are unable to boot that system to Windows, see if you can log in as system administrator. At the Welcome Screen press Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice. On the sign in screen enter Administrator as the user name and leave the password blank. (It should be blank by default, and will be unless someone has altered it.) If you are able to log on in this account you can go to Start|Control Panel|User Accounts and change or delete the password for her named administrator account.
