Opera browser software question

Hello:  I have a Dimension 4400 desktop, running Windows XP/home w/SP2, Microsoft IE6 is my current browser. I was interested in Microsoft IE7 but have seen some negative reports from users on problems after rebooting the computer. I saw an Opera browser website and it looks very interesting and very easy to navigate. Would you give me feedback on problems with IE7 and if Opera would conflict with my XP operating system instead of using MSN which I use now. I've just reinstalled my operating system got all the updates installed for Windows, 100 plus, and do not want to go thru that again. Everything is working fine now but the IE7 looks like it has nice new features, and Opera looks great too. The European companies software appear very user friendly plus they do not seem at interested in taking your money for every little thing they provide.  Thanks for any feedback.          Regards,   Gilbert

IE7 is ok if you like the way it is organized. There are tools out there
to help customize the IE7 user interface. As to Opera, it is a good
browser, as is Firefox ... on my main computer I have Firefox, Opera,
IE7 and Netscape 7 ...but I use IE7 the least .. Firefox mostly for me.

If you want to do some customization of IE7 use this link:

Hello 85rx-7se:  Thanks for getting back to me regarding Opera software question. Having that many browsers on your computer doesn't that cause a conflict with your operating system? Anyway I will check out Firefox too see how it looks.  Thanks Again,    Gilbert

Hello 85rx-7se: I am using MSN Explorer as the default browser, if I install Opera or Firefox how do I use these browsers in place of Explorer ?

No conflicts whatever. Except perhaps in the rare case that all
may be open at the same time & I only have 512MB of Rambus RD RAM
in the Dell 8200 .. And I can't up the ram amount easily as it is outdated
and very costly.

You can uninstall the MSN Browser ... There is absolutely no need for
it or it's branding. The only thing you may need to keep from MSN is
the Dial Up Connection Icon (if you use dial up to connect to the internet)
It is needed since it stores the Access Number, Account #, Login & Password

If you are on cable or dsl that is all handled thru the NIC Card and will not be
affected by removal of MSN's version of Internet Explorer .. You can get to any
site you want thru any other browser. You just need to know the correct URL
or Bookmark for them.

Hello 85rx-75se: Thanks for the update  on the browsers, I have dial-up and elminating MSN I think could cause me some problems. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to update me on various browers, I'm not that technical on the computer, it would be just my luck to cause a major problem if I eliminated MSN.   Thanks Again,            Gilbert

You will not have any issues if you do it properly.

Go to Add / Remove Programs .. you wan to uninstall
MSN Explorer .. that is all you need to do.

I use Opera, Firefox and IE(but only when I absolutely need to). Both Opera and Firefox are superior to IE IMHO. snowball

Opera will not mess up the system or MSN
All you do is when want to go "On Line" you
click on that MSN Butterfly to open the connection.
After it Dials Out and authenticates, just minimize it
to the System Tray and open what ever Browser you
want to view the internet with. That's all there is to it.

Hello snowball77: Thanks for your input regarding IE7, I've downloaded Opera but not installed it yet, concerned it may conflict with my MSN when I try and sign in with my dial-up. Looking over Opera it looks clean and has tabs and is user friendly but I do not want to mess up my system, its happened too many times from my mistakes.  Thanks again,      Gilbert

85rx-7se: Thanks for the info on Opera browser, I'm not that Tech savvy and thought it would interfere with my connection when I try and sign in.  Will install Opera and try your recommendation.
Thanks,  Gilbert
