Optiplex 760 PrivacyIconClient problem

Hi,

I am getting a PrivacyIconClient.exe  - .NET Framework initializatio Error warning after bootup. (Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application).

I have just done a clean install of Windows Xp service pack 3 and installed all the Windows update apps.

I have installed the Dell drivers for this PC, using the service tag to insure the correct drivers.

I have also installed .NET 4.0.

Has anyone had this problem and is there a solution?

Many thanks,

Mike

Hi Rick,

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I didn't install the system utility as I thought that it was some sort of manager utility for Dell use.

I had not seen the install instructions in the link you gave.

I will install again and report back.

Many thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Did you install the desktop/notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

.net framework on an XP machine requires every version installed, unlike the newer models. Go to Windows Updates click on custom updates. Install all versions of .net framework.

Your error for .net frameworks wasn't...

Hi Rick,

I have re-installed the drivers and that did not give me a cure.

However, installing all the updates for .NET, as you suggested, seems to have done the trick!

I assumed, incorrectly, that if you let Windows Update automatically select what to install that would be OK.

However, using the manual selection gave me the .NET updates to select and install.

I am now out of office until 3rd May but I anticipate that all is now OK.

Many thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Mike

Mike,

I remember from a while back, XP needed all the versions of .net framework. Vista and Windos 7 only need the curent version. I don't understand why but it must have something to do with the operating system the way it was built.

Glad you got it working. :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back.

Take care,

Rick
