Optiplex GX270 hangs/shutdown when windows XP is Installed

hi,
I have a Dell optiplex GX270 small form factor base unit with Pentium4 2.4Ghz processor, 40GB HDD, 512Mb Ram, Floppy
but no cd/DVD rom
It came standard with windows 2000 Pro.

I installed windows XP pro with service pack 2. with all new Dell drivers .

since then the PC keeps shutting down or hanging. This however does not happen when I install windows 2000 on it
I would like to know if anyone if facing the same problems or know what the problem could be
I have a suspicion that it might be one of the Dell drivers causing the problem
please does any one have any ideas ?

Did you run the Windows XP "Upgrade Advisor" ?  That may be a key to what is needed.

hi again,

I found the upgrade stuff from microsoft's website and ran it. I t says pc is fine.

I have a feeling that the problem is one of dell's drivers that install the Network card/Graphic card services

I am installing the pc now again (but as a wiindows XP upgrade and then see where the problem lies).

I have installed xp on 3 similar spec Optiplexes and getting the same problem

thanks

Is there a chipset driver that you should be installing immediately after loading XP and before you install the video driver, audio drive, and other drivers, in that exact order?
