Optplex GX 1 unable to read cdrom

Question

I am attempting to install a new HDD(LG model 4800B) in my GX1. Although the Bios (A10) see's my two cd roms, I am unable to boot to either to install a new OS. I hear the drives spinning .

Did you use the bios set-up to set the cdrom drive as the first boot device?

Yes, Bios is set correctly. It seems that the cdrom is not reading. The cd rom was fine prior to a hard drive failure.

How about silly things like the ribbon cable connectors to the cds got dislodged during the hdd changeover (just one of many possibilities)?  Simple test for the drives is to connect headphones directly and play a cd.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE! Cables are set correctly, can see lite on both cdroms and hear them spin. Have decided to put machine up for sale at a garage sale.
