Outlook express will not send e-mail.

I just got this new computer not even a month ago now and ever since I got it I can not use outlook express. I have a Dell E510? Or is a E550? For the life of me I can not remember. The problem I have is I can receive e-mail in outlook express but not send mail. I keep getting a error message. I have contacted my server and I have it set up right. I talked to Microsoft and they said it was Dell. Dell said it was my server. My server said it was Dell. I have been getting the run around for almost a month now. And it is driving me nuts. I use outlook or did all the time. Dell will not help me without paying for it. I said I just bought this computer and outlook has not worked since I got it. They did admit it was on their part. But since I would not pay for it they would not help me. I have another issue with them that I am working on also but I want this fixed asap. The error message I get when I try to send mail is.
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was . Subject 'Test', Account: 'mail.adelphia.net', Server: 'mail.adelphia.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 relaying mail to charter.net is not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
I have googled this error number and found all kinds of answers. But I tried them and it did not work either.
Anyone else have a idea?

The message seems quite clear.  You're trying to send an email From Charter.net by going through Adelphia.  Adelphia is refusing to do it.  I get that message when traveling sometimes.  It's caused by the sending email server being incorrect.  You'll need to change it to Charter's server.

First is wether your email is with Adelphia.net or with Charter.net

Next check that your smtp & pop3 entries per the isp are properly typed in

Check with your isp as to wether you need to use Secure Login or not & also SSL

Next check the Ports for Incoming & Outgoing

Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port from 25 to 26 or use or 2500 or 587

Usually Port 587 will work fine

Rick,

I am sending mail from Adelphia to Charter mail. That is my family members e-mail address. I use Adelphia. It says it was rejected by the server? I have tried to change the settings around ect and so far it is not working. I guess that I am not allowed to use outlook express. I also tried to get my e-mail from gmail to outlook so I could use it but it will not let me also, I keep getting a pop up message asking for my user name and password and when I put it in it says it is not valid. I know what my user name and password is. If I go to gmail and log in that is fine. Thanks for your help.

As to your problems with Outlook Express:

1): Thru you Adelphia Email .. can you send an email to anyone ? ?
Or are they all rejected ? ? ... If all are rejected check your outgoing
server & port information ... see my prior post above

2): As to use of Outlook Express with GMAIL Account ... please see this link

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13276

That details exactly Step By Step how to make Outlook Express work with Gmail
I know it's good as I have mine setup

Thanks for responding. No I can not e-mail anyone from outlook using adelphia. Only people who also have adelphia. I have a friend that has adelphia and I can e-mail her thought outlook but no one else. It comes back as the same message. I have talked to Adelphia I don't know how many times and it is set up right. I also clicked on your link to set up gmail though outlook and it is blank.

Thanks again

Use cut & paste for the link into your browser address bar

It will bring up all the info

For the Adelphia problem, open Outlook Exp, Tools, Accounts,
click on Properties for your email account ... Server Tab ..
Make sure the Outgoing Mail Server .. My Server Requires Authentication
has a Check Mark in it .. most ISP's will not forward mail off their server
without this box being checked ... they do that so spammers do not use
your email account illegally

As to Gmail use these settings for Outlook Express:

Incoming server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server requires authentication: check that box
Outgoing mail on Port #465
Incoming mail server on Port #995
Check both boxes for This Server Requires a Secure Connection

Hope it helps

Thanks for your help. I did get gmail to work with outlook express now. To bad I could not get my internet company's to work. I have to go through the adelphia website to send mail from them. I have been using gmail more now.
