Why is Avast AV superior to AVG. And do you have any input on how Avast and AVG compare to PC-Cillin. I'm down to evaluating those three. I've already made up my mind to keep away from McAfee, which I now have and Norton. McAfee just renewed my subscription and charged my credit card without contacting me. I cancelled the charge. So that's it for McAfee. And Norton support is terrible.
I've bought and used Norton, Mcafee, PC-Cillin, and AVG Anti-Virus. I would say the best one if PC-Cillin. It automatically updates, doesn't annoy you with pointless messages like Norton and Mcafee, it automatically scans, and it slows down your computer the least compared to the others.
Go with PC-cillin. I've been using it since 1995 at home and have experienced McAffee at work and Norton on my in-laws' PC (guess who has to fix all the problems with it?). PC-cillin is faster and less hassle. I like the firewall better, too.
Support has improved over the years and is now tolerably efficient -- email works best.
The only downside to PC-cillin is if you're still on V92 dial-up: the updates sometimes run to 3 or 4 MB.
I had already deceided to go with PC-cillin. And from Amazon I will get a $25 rebate since I now have McAfee. My Dell 8250 has ONE Gb of RAM so I don't have to worry about the 3MB you mention. Thanks
I notice that you are using ROXIO. What are your thoughts about Roxio vs Nero. My Sony double layer burner came with an abreviated version of Nero. It's time for me to upgrade. What are your recommendations and why?

You'll get a broader range of responses if you start a separate thread.... Suggest you work out exactly what it is you can't do that you want to / need to do with your freebie Nero, then you can post some more specific questions, like 'Can you do X?' or 'How easy is it to Y?'
