PCI Simple Communications Controller
Since a recent Format I have discovered an exclamation mark beside PCI in Device Manager.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with XP SP3.
The message I get on clicking PCI is:
"The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28).
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver"
Do I need this and if so should I just click Reinstall Driver? OR ?
I have a Dell Dimension Resource CD that I used to install Drivers since the Format, but I'm wondering if I missed one.
Thanks.

When you did the reinstall, did you install the Intel chipset drivers? If not, that MAY be the problem.
There are also many different Communications drivers listed on the Dell downloads. Have you installed the applicable modem driver?

PCI Simple communication device is your dialup modem. In case if you use high speed internet, then there is no requirement to install this driver as we would not be using it for any purpose. other hand if you want to fax using your computer then you need this driver
you con find the driver @ either one will assist you.

Didn't I just tell the user about the Modem drivers and refer them to the downloads?
Also the link to "computerhelp" appears to be SPAM and that is a violation of the terms of service of the forum.

Got the Midem Driver from Conexant, with use of Windows Wizard.
Then later, I found the Dell CD in my drawer that has the Modem Driver on it ---- wouldn't you know it. I muddelled my way thru the problem ---- Exclamation mark gone now in Device Manager.
Thanks for reply!
