Curiously enough, I had never tried to play a DVD in VLC before last night. Worked fine with the default VLC (for Windows) install, happily enough. Of course, any properly installed DVD software should work just as well.
I've downloaded VLC yesterday and I believe it's the one with the orange cone. Nothing happen when I put the dvd in the disc drive.
I downloaded VLC before posting this thread -- I read somewhere that it was a better alternative than the bs player, yet it still wasn't playing the dvds.
A dvd that I had purchased the other day plays with Interactual Media player and it wouldn't play it b/c it didn't have a dvd navigator.
You might need to associate the playback of DVDs with VLC if you are going to run them that way. Its what I had to do last night. In my case, I got the "what do you want to do" pop-up from Windows once it recognized the DVD. At the worst, you should be able to open VLC (which is the orange cone icon) and then point it to the DVD drive to have it play, regardless of what program the disk is associated with currently.

The VLC media player download was super easy, and it works fine for playing DVD's with my external DVD player (model PD01S ). Thanks so much!
