Phantom OS

I reinstalled XP on my hard drive and now on booting up I am asked which OS system I want to use: only one works (the one I reinstalled). How do I get rid of the "phantom" option?

Thanks.

This is a software problem, rather than a BIOS problem.  If the following doesn't work, then post your message in the Software - Windows XP forum.

Go to Start > Run and type msconfig then click OK.  Click on the BOOT.INI tab then click on the "Check all boot paths" button.  Then delete the invalid boot path that it finds.

Right-click My Computer and choose Properties. Go to the Advanced Tab and choose Settings under Startup and Recovery. Choose a default operating system and click OK.
