Please help on NvCpl.dll problem

I don't know why previous message got sent.  I have a dimension 8200 with xp home installed.  Upon booting up I get a dialog box stating: error booting C:\windows\system32\NvCpl.dll      a dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.     I did a search for this problem and found a solution on this forum, but it does not work.  I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong and it is driving me buggy.  It says to run sfc /scannow in safe mode, but when I do, nothing happens.  When in a normal boot, when I run sfc /scannow a dialog box comes up and it does a long review.  But when it finishes the review, nothing shows up on the screen.  Please help me.        Norm

Hi,

Two things to try

1.  Click on your start button..click "run"
Type "msconfig" without the quotes.  Then OK
Go to your startup tab.
Uncheck a box that has C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NvCpl.dll
or something similar

If it is not in msconfig

2.  The NvCpl.dll is a file related to your display drivers. This file in technical terms is the: "NVIDIA Display Properties Extension".
Your best bet is to go to www.nvidia.com and download the updated drivers.

nkempka,

The latest NVidia driver can be downloaded from here. It should resolve the problem.
