Knowing exactly what PC you have and what operating system (XP, Vista or WIn7, 32 or 64 bit) might help with details, but some general ideas:
My first thought was "what does Flash have to do with email??", but apparently Yahoo mail requires it. Kinda weird to me, but it is what it is.
Best advice I can give is to use the "nuclear option": Uninstall all versions of Flash Player you have, and start over with each browser you want to use. Start with step 3 in the link below - you'll need to use the Flash uninstaller linked to there.
As for reinstalling, I'd recommend following the instructions for "Download Flash Player with the manual installer". instead of using the standard web-based installer. Less chance of a browser hiccup getting in the way. Note that each type of browser (IE vs Chrome, Firefox) needs separate installations.
As for downloading Google Chrome, it's become common practice for companies to "bundle" their software with somebody else's - you have be careful about checking or unchecking any boxes for optional programs. Anymore you have to be vigilant about what you will and will not allow to be installed on your PC. While you may be happy with Chrome now, never forget that your PC belongs to you - not to Adobe, Yahoo, AT&T, Google, or anybody else.
And, Internet Explorer won't recognize the newly installed version of Flash until after you reboot the PC (not just exit the browser). Been there, done that one..!
There's a box you should be able to uncheck to prevent Adobe from force-feeding you the Google toolbar or Chrome.
