Problem: Installing IIS on Windows XP Pro SP2 (Dimension 9100)

Question

Hi,   Since my new Dimension 9100 (Windows XP Pro with SP2) is also going to used for work-related purposes I need to install IIS. To do I followed the following steps   1) Go to the control panel 2) Select Add or Remove Programs 3) Select Add/Remove Windows component from the sidebar. 4) From the popup ticked 'Internet Information Services (IIS)'     (kept all the defaults for IIS) 5) Clicked next. 6) Windows started configuring the component/building file lists, etc. bla :)   Now the problem. I get a message box (Copy Error) stating Windows cann't find the 'staxmem.dl_' file.   Dell did not provide me with a Windows XP / SP2 Installation CD, but they did provide a C:\i386 directory.   I browsed to C:\i386. Selected the file 'STAXMEM.DL_' en tried to continue the installation of IIS.   The message box keeps popping up and I'm unable to install IIS. Somehow Windows is unable to copy the file 'staxmem.dl_' (or any of the next files If I tell Windows to skip this one).   I have no clue why this is the case, any help, porinters or insight is appreciated.   Thanx. Bob

You must have the CD. Does your system have the extraction program to extract the files so you can burn your own CD?

This board is full of procedures on this or you can call Dell to have them send youone.

Hi,

Thanx for your quick reply! I contacted Dell (Netherlands) but unfortunatly the "refused" to send a CD. It seems now their policy is to make you download it and burn it yourself. Unfortunatly the woman on the phone was unable to tell me where, she mentioned it should be in the manual that is on my disk... No such luck :/

Could you point me to one of the procedures for this?
