Hi Sizewell. :smileyhappy: Try this to see what Support Center is set up for:
1) Click Start and then type regedit in the Search box and press Enter (or Entres :smileywink: )
2) Once the registry editor is open, navigate to HKLM/Software/SupportSoft/ProviderList/DellSupportCenter/Installinfo (HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
2a) Another possible path to the current settings is HKCU/Software/SupportSoft/ProviderList/%PROVIDERID%/configdata (HKCU is HKEY_CURRENT_USERS)
2b) There is an identical path under HKEY_USERS to that of HKEY_CURRENT_USERS
Check the values there to see if they are set up for France or the UK (I'm guessing that that is what it was set to when you got it). That looked like the most likely place that the language values are being set for DSC and I don't see any way to change the settings inside DSC itself. If they are set for France then you might be able to find out the correct values from someone else with a UK-based system. The problem here is that mine are all US. :smileysad: Check that first and let us know how it is set up. You don't need to post any of the info and it's a good idea not to as some of the information is unique to your system.
Many thanks for your help. It partly solved the problem. We have a laptop from Dell as well and that was configured to english ok, so was able to copy the registry entries where applicable. However the icon on the taskbar now displays correctly when I right click on it, but when I open the Dell support center, some of it is in english and some french so maybe I have missed a registry entry. But it seems we are on the right track. :smileyhappy:
Sizewell, I'm glad to hear that that partially worked. I do hope though that you created a restore point or a registry backup before making any changes. That was why I didn't mention making any changes in my last post. :smileyhappy: But since you've made it that far you may want to continue looking through the folders that are listed under the registry keys that I mentioned, only those that are directly under the SupportSoft folders. I noticed on my system that there are references to language in some of the other folders. I'm guessing that the changes you were making consisted of things like changing fr to en or fr to uk, is that right? It also looks like you would have had to change the codes as well. Let us know what happens if you find and make additional changes.
It also sounds like you didn't update Support Center on the laptop yet, is that correct? It sounds to me that the program is accessing a server in your geographic location rather than one that is used for your home location so you will probably end up having to do something similar to this on a regular basis (i.e. for every DSC update). If you're still under warranty you might want to check with tech support to see if there is a more elegant solution.
I checked a few hours later and everything was displayed in english, so all seems ok now. Yes, I changed values from fr to en or gb where appropriate and some country code numbers as well. Prior to making any changes I diid make a restore point as I do not like to play around too much with the registry.
I got the laptop about 6 months ago from Dell France and requested that the software/keyboard would be english. I configured this myself, I then bought the desktop about 3 months ago from Dell UK and also configured this and initially, Dell support was in english but a couple of days ago I noticed it had changed to french. My mistake maybe is that when I configured it, I set everything to english language but put my location as France. I have since changed my location to say its the UK (although it is not).
So the laptop that you got in France was displaying in English and the desktop that you bought in the UK was displaying in French? :smileyhappy: I'm glad that it is working for you now though and I think you may have found the reason when you were talking about the location setting. Thanks for the update and you're welcome.
