Problem with Windows 8 installation from Dell Restore Disk

Very weird...

I re-installed Windows 8 using Dell Restore Disk, which was simple enough. but from the first time I accessed Windows, the cursor keeps swirling around in a circle like it is buffering and will not quit. Not the cursor itself but the little circle that is by the cursor (indicating action or background process). I've never seen this before, and know it is not normal...something is not right with this copy of Windows (burgandy colored Dell Restore Disk). Has anyone else experienced this, because it didn't act this way previously. It's like something is constantly running in the background, or trying to phone home.

FYI, it's not a virus/malware. As I said, this happen right away...never went online the first few days. Speaking of which...

It's also a headache getting online via wifi...the system acts very temperamental, seemingly trying to load something. The Connection Center box disappears before I can click the available network. Very frustrating. Please help.

(note: I've run F12 diagnostic at boot, and all the tests checked out fine.)

Hi Macaulay301,

Check if the issue persists in Safemode with networking:

Also, perform a clean boot on the computer:

Let me know how it goes.

Just booted in safemode with networking, and the problem persisted. The hard drive led indicator continued flashing (indicating activity).

Clean boot coming next.

Thanks!

Hi, Rajesh...

I booted the computer in safemode (WITHOUT networking), and the constant spooling/buffering effect seemed to stop. The hard drive led indicator was not flashing (indicating activity) in this safemode. So how do I determine which drivers (in normal mode) is causing the problem (constant spooling/buffering; cursor swirling, etc)?

I'm going to boot in safemode WITH networking now...also a clean boot.

Thanks!

Hi Macaulay301,

May I know the exact system model?

Refer the following link for more troubleshooting:

Also try installing Touch freeze .This Utility disables touchpad automatically while you are typing text.

Install the touch freeze drivers from the below link:

From the above link, click on Downloads sections, save the file and run the file.

Hi there Rajesh!

Sorry it taken so long for me to respond. My laptop is a Dell Inspron 3520 (FYI ordered the Windows 8 recovery disk from your tech support. After doing a fresh install, I started experiencing this issue immediately.

I have recorded a video and uploaded it to YouTube for you to see and hopefully help better trouble this issue. Here is the link:

I will continue to troubleshoot the laptop as you instructed. Please see my video to better give you an idea of my issue.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Hi Macaulay,

Lets try running diagnostics on the computer as it seems to be a hardware failure.

Refer the following Video to run diagnostics on the computer:

Hi Rajesh,

I ran diagnostics before and everything checked out. I just ran the FULL diagnostics, and everything is fine as well. I don't think it's hardware. FYI, I was running Windows 7 home premium for a short while, and it worked perfectly. It wasn't until I re-installed W8 when the problem started.

Hi, Rajesh...

I think I have good news. I've been performing clean boots all morning (I had not done so, per your instructions before; only ran safe mode). Anyway, I was in Task Manager Services and System Configuration disabling stuff. I disabled the DW WLan Tray Service (in Sys Config), and the DW WLan Wireless Card Network Tray Applet (in Task Manager) - the browser to stopped blinking! However, the cursor/arrow was still doing the spooling thing, so I disabled one-by-one in Task Manager...and voila! It stopped. Dell Audio seems to be the culprit, I disabled Alps Pointing Device Driver, and PowerDVD RC Service...I'm not sure whether there were conflicts there, but since the laptop seems to be ok, I'm hesitant to enable them. What's your take?

I was worried that disabling Dell Audio would remove sound, but it is working fine. I inserted a DVD movie, which worked fine as well. So, my question is: do you think these disabled services will impact usage going forward? Please see photo links (below) for screenshots (Task Manager and System Configuration).

Hi Macaulay,

Glad to hear that the issue is fixed now. You may just disable Alps Pointing Device Driver which can also reolve the issue.

As the computer is working with the Audio as well, there should not be any issue.
