Problem with XP SP2 while attempting to install new Nvidia drivers

Hi,

I have a relatively minor problem but still an annoying one.  I am trying to install the new Nvidia Forceware 91.47 drivers but everytime I uninstall the old drivers (which came with the system) and reboot, Windows automatically reinstalls the old  drivers (version 84.21) the second I get into windows.  I'm just wondering if there is an option to temporarily disable this function so I can launch the Nvidia installer to install the newer drivers?  If not, then I may have to save the old drivers on a disk to install the new ones, but I don't know where these driver files reside (I think under system32, but I'm not 100% sure).

Thanks!

ESOblivion,

Are you removing the old drivers using the Driver tab of the Properties entry for the graphics card in Device Manager?

Yes, I've tried removing the drivers in device manager and in add/remove programs list, either way I get the same issue, Windows

Autoinstalls the old drivers before I get a chance to install the newer ones.

Try doing it in SAFE Mode ... F8 when the system is first turned on
That should allow the driver to properly change

Do you mean uninstalling the drivers while in safe mode?  I'm not sure if that would work, but it's worth a try; XP will most likely
reinstall the "old" drivers automatically after I reboot anyway.

This seems to be a common problem with SP2, since Windows automatically looks for specific drivers in it's driver database.  Before, it used to allow the user to choose themselves.
