Problems to install software in a notebook with Windows Vista

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 with Windows Vista, I've tried to install Compaq Visual Fortran 6.1 and I just couldn't. I'm seriously thinking about installing Windows XP. Does somebody know what can I do to install the software without installing Windows XP? Thanks.

Hi, Please indicate a simptoms of your problem. Why you can't install? What Vista says?

That's an eight year old program and is probably not compatible with Vista. I doubt you can get it to run, but you could try installing it using the Program Compatibility Wizard. Look that up in Help first for warnings and instructions.

Hi to both of you for replying. For the first one: There aren't symptoms. When I load the CD, immediately the installation window appears, then I choose the button "Install Visual Fortran" but nothing happens, and the little arrow of the mouse looks like if the computer were doing something, but finally nothing happens. For the second one: I've tried what you say, using the Windows XP (the first time I did it) and the Windows 98 (the 2nd time) configuration, but none of them worked. I hope you can help me. Julián.

Sometimes, right clicking on the installation icon and then clicking "Run as Administrator" will get older programs to start the install. Doesn't guarantee it will run after installation finishes. If not, also run in the compatibility modes as you have done, but running as the Administrator.
