Programs stall during loadig in XP
I have encountered a problem recently on my Dimension 8300.
I purchased an epson printer.
When loading the software the installation stalled at 0% and wouldn't proceed.
I would have to Ctrl Alt Del to end task
Contacted Epson no help, told to call Dell no help, Dell said its an XP software issue and to contact Microsoft...yeah right!
Downlaoded drivers form epson website and got most of it loaded for printer
As a test I tried loading other programs I have and still encounter the same problem...stall at 0%
Bought digital camera
Tried loading the software that came with the camera...stalls at 0%
Went to micrsoft site this AM and downloaded latest security update...it stalled at the point where it creates a restore point.
I tried numerous times to install and waited for up to an hour at 0% with no luck.
Any ideas on why XP is stalling program installations?

The problem is when I try and install new software programs on my computer.
The install shield wizard will start and go a few steps and then stall at "0% files installed" step using the CD that came with my printer and camera.
I couldn't even install the security update I downloaded from the microsoft website.
Possible conflict with "install shield wizard" and "XP" ?
Also when I "end task" I get an error "Remote call procedure failed"

Hello
If the above solutions resolves your problem than fine or else please try to download all updates and patches from microsoft.com/downloads to some directory and write it in a CD,
Than take all backups of your required datas in computer and try to reinstall the OS and install all the patches and updates from the CD where you have saved all updates from microsoft.com/downloads ..
Please do not connect to internet before you install all the patches and updates..
Reason : Some worms wont let you install updates or patches and they also corrupts many files

Have you tried running any "exe" already installed on your system. If none work here are a couple of fixes. It coud be either of them, so try them one at a time and check if fixed.

Scroll down and select the Fixswen.inf download
Save the fixswen.inf file to your local hard disk, right-click on the file and choose install. This is supposed to undo registry changes made by SWEN
I think you should run a virus scan too

It may also be that your restore database is corrupted. It sounds like the installers are hanging at the point where a new entry is being created in the restore database. The fix for that is to disable System Restore, then re-enable it, as described in this Symantec article.

someone was having a problem installing sun's "java" (virtual machine), and they followed the advice at this website to clean out their temp files, and then they were able to install the program..
http://fixyourwindows.com/
you could try clearing out the files in the c/windows/temp folder (don't delete the "temp" folder itself)
one time, i could not install a symantec product, and that is what they recommended, and it worked.. since then, i always keep c/windows/temp empty..
