Question about installing external hard drive.
I’m looking at installing an external hard drive onto my antiquated, old Win98se Dell. I’m checking out either the Maxtor One-Touch HD or the Iomega which comes with the Norton Ghost software. My question is this: these hard drives don’t come any smaller that something like 40-80 gigs. When I attach it to the USB port, 1.1 in my case, will my Win98se automatically recognize it and make it my D: drive or whatever? Will a hard drive that huge (to me) cause a problem with Win98se, are there any drive size limitations? My current hard drive is so small that it fits well within any limitations of Win98se so I've never had to deal with them and I'm not sure what they even are. Thank you.

I have a Maxtor 120GB external drive and it works fine. I did have some problems with a USB port as it would occassionaly lose the Maxtor drive. I would have to turn the power off to the Maxtor for a few minutes and then turn it back on to correct the problem. No biggie, but I have had consistent connection with a firewire cable. I had to add a firewire card.
Cannot remember exactly but the Maxtor was not added as drive D. I had to go back and reset all of the drive letters. No biggie and can tell you how if this is a problem for you.
My only problem is what to do with all of that drive capacity. Sell space? I did get the extra capacity to have storage space when editing videos, but have not got that going yet.
