Quick Time
I am trying to install a children's program, First Thousand Words. When I try to install it, I get a message that I need Quick Time 2.1 or higher. I choose Yes to install it and then I get an error message. I have Windows XP. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Liz,
Quicktime is an Apple program that allows viewing of Quicktime files. I have had Quicktime installed and have found that it brings along a lot of problems......system crashes even.... finally I uninstalled it complete....even searching for left behind files and have done without viewing QT files for some time.....
Recently I came upon a Quicktime Alternative that is much smaller and allows viewing Quicktime files....and it does not cause any system problems, at least so far.
Don't know if the Alternative would work for you, but might be worth a try. If it does not work, it is easy to uninstall. You can download it from here:
http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm
Scroll down and select a download site, then download to your drive somewhere you can find it again....then find it, double click on it and follow the instructions....
good luck.

WindowsXP does not run some of the older DOS applications and games. If this is a DOS program, you are probably out of luck. If it is an older Windows program, you may want to check on the manufacturers web site to see if there are any hint or patches to make it run on XP.

Don't you think it is odd that this link you provided
for QuickTime Alternative software comes equipped with a serial
registration number to download Apple's Professional updates.
What is the source of the download?
Do they the owners of the software have a site?
QuickTime Alternative (Quicktimelt122)
pirated software? Or, no?
Whose software is it?

I have no idea who originated the software or it's authenticity. Appreciate your information. I have not seen the rigistration information that you depict in your posting. I again took a look at my program and cannot produce the windows shown. If you know of another alternative to Apple's Quicktime, would like to know about it. Don't want to do anything illegal, but I had numerous problems with the real Quicktime, and don't want to use that again.
I ran upon the reference sometime back on a forum....don't remember which one...and the poster(s) said that it was a good alternative which would allow viewing QT files without the problems that sometimes came with Quicktime from APPLE....... it seems to work for me...... I had problems with the official QT, but have had none with this so far.....
Searching around some of my favorites and ran upon this one:

Don't know if this is where I got the download or not...... sometime back and can't remember.

Thanks, but this post is not foolish enough to be of interest.

With earlier versions it was important to choose Custom Installation during install. With version 5 and up you can choose later with no conflicting reactions with other players/Windows.
1. Right click on the taskbar QT icon. Select QuickTime Preferences.
Click MIME Settings. Deselect or Select what you want Quicktime player to run for you.
2. If you have chosen to remove the little QT icon in your task bar you can go through the QT player toolbar to find QuickTime Settings/ File Type Associations. Open and Deselect or Select what you want Quicktime player to run for you.
See my Quicktime Preferences below:
Note1: Checkmarks are Apple File Extensions only.
Note2: On a new installation of Quicktime there is a QT pop up suggesting to change or not change. (yes, its annoying. Get rid of it.) Checkmark No and uncheckmark the box that says to open everytime you make any changes regarding file extensions. You will not see that QT pop up again that encourages users to change their file associations back to Quicktime.
I currently have QT running my browser .mov files. That's it.
With Broadband cable I can watch many more movies. Before it would take hours to download some of the movies that interested me such as Adobe and Macromedia free .mov tutorials.
