Readyboost Problem

i've been looking into my issue around here and it seems that some claim the readyboost to be a gimmick. i'll admit that i didn't notice a big difference but anyway... i was using a 1gb pen drive and one day before i plugged it in, i had an ipod shuffle plugged in so it changed from device f to g. just wondering if there was any way to change it back. also, i tried formatting it to get it back to f (don't ask me why it bugs me, it just does and i know it shouldn't) regardless, it does not work anymore. windows says it's not good enough to run with readyboost. i can't help but find that ironic when i used it the day before for readboost. any ideas? Thanks!

I have a Sandisk Titanium which says on the package it is Readyboost compatible and I know now that it is.  For some reason when I first plugged it in I got that message too, that it's not.  I think all I did was unplug it, and plug it in again.  Or try opening the drive folder when it's plugged in, and "readyboost" should show as one of the items on the drive with the amount of memory dedicated to it.  If not try deleting whatever's on the drive, unplug it, and plug it in again.

i tried all of that and i tried deleting the drivers and everything. turns out changing the allocation size- i'm still not really sure what it is, did the trick. it's working again. is there any reason not to dedicate the entire disk to ready boost? does leaving memory on the drive make it faster? i know windows recommends less than the full capacity for some reason...

That's the only time I've heard of a recommendation of less than the full capacity.  I can't say, though, because I used the full capacity for a few months and then finally put my drive in storage because I realized that it was actually slowing my computer very slightly (opening different windows took slightly longer, in my opinion, but I'm not sure.)

OK, now I see what you mean, in the properties window.  Yes I guess you would allocate the space just as windows recommends.  On mine 1840 is recommended, though the capacity is 1940 mb.  That might make it faster.

I'm trying mine again for a while with the recommended setting.
