Reinstall Windows XP

I needed to reinstall Windows XP, so I started to install the copy that came with my Dell PC 3 years ago and got to the part where I have to enter the 25 digit security code and realized I no longer have it.  I got my own copy of Windows XP but I can't install it because the computer is stuck in installing the old version and requesting the 25 digit code.  How can I install the new copy from where I am?

jessO,

If you are unable to locate the original 25-character product ID, you can install your other copy of XP by simply booting from the CD and starting over. If you boot from the CD the installation process has no point of reference with respect to where the system was when the earlier install was stopped.

Did you look on the side of your tower if you have a desktop or on the bottom of the laptop?
