Try this:

Look and see if you have the file on your system. If you do then do the following:

1. Search the Windows system32 folder ( C:\windows\system32 ). In there you should have a file MSCOMCTL.OCX dated 12/20/2002 ActiveX Control file 1,053 KB in size. If it is there good. If not search the web and download a copy from here:

2.Press the Windows Key + the R Key. This will open the run dialog window.

3.  In the box type " regsvr32 /s MSCOMCTL.OCX " and press the enter key. It should give you a response.

If it is on the system it will get registered and all will be good again. This is a common problem.

Error 339 Component MSCOMCTL.OCX..... uninstalled, reinstalled cd Reformatted vista...multiple times... Tryed dl'ing and reging the file... Nothing fixes it Fun to see this problem popping up right after i get my E1705.

Just a suggestion here:

If you are not getting this error until you install the resource CD, then don't install the resource CD.

Crazy, I know but what else have you got since the normal fix for this issue is not working. You don't need to install the resource CD anyway, I never do. Get the driver files for all your components then just install them one at a time. No Resource CD needed.

It looks like this is only happening after a reinstallation then when the resource CD is installed

I installed a dual boot system therefore considered the possibility that the resource cd is picking up the C Drive System32 Folder (XP) Files rather than the D Drive Vista files as the resource cd worked fine for XP.

This is what i done in Vista and it worked perfectly.

Heres the fix.

Command Prompt to the System32 folder.

C:\>regsvr32 -u MSCOMCTL.OCX
C:\>regsvr32 -u SSA3D30.OCX
C:\>regsvr32 SSA3D30.OCX
C:\>regsvr32 -u MSCOMCTL.OCX

Let us know if it works for you.

Amazing... Unreging the files, and then rereging them worked it seems... It just odd these errors would pop up on a multiple clean installs like this. I tryed using the dell drivers from the website, however they are not working correctly. i am just about positive i have the right ones, but needless to say, i still dont have wireless N card working, blue tooth, or volume buttons and stuff working. Thanks for the help so far. Will keep you updated!

SUCCESS! :smileyvery-happy:

First, to the suggestion of never installing the ResourceCD in order to prevent the error: That's just plain dumb, I'm sorry to say!  In my case, my Dimension C521 was not using the Sigmatel High Definition Audio drivers.  Without going into the long and I-wish-it-had-been-short of it, without installing and using the ResourceCD browser, I would have had to open each driver package individually to find the one I wanted!  I've already spent enough time trying to get it working again, thank you.

Finally, regarding bbasra's RegSvr32 solution: Thank you so-o-o much for saving me from pulling out what's left of my hair! :smileywink:  The error made absolutely no freakin' sense!  I was getting the error number 339, but not for MSCOMCTL.OCX.  I was getting it for SSA3D30.OCX.  I had already located the file in the System32 folder of my solitary Vista installation, and already tried a RegSvr32 SSA3D30.OCX.  I'd tried uninstalling, re-installing, modifying and repairing the ResourceCD installation.  Nothing worked!  Thankfully, those four RegSvr32 commands did the trick!  I FINALLY have the Sigmatel HD Audio drivers re-installed!

Kudos! :smileyhappy:

Why is this Dumb? You do not need to INSTALL the ResourceCD to install the drivers needed for your system. You do not need to pick through all the drivers on the CD to install the correct drivers either. All you need to do is go to drivers and downloads page at Dell.com and insert your service tag # then specify which OS you have and Dell will serve the correct and Up To Date drivers for you to install. Rename each as to what it is for and burn them to a CDR. You could do this in way less time than you spent trying to get by a small avoidable problem.

Good you got it fixed anyway. :smileywink:

You're right, I was not considering the online option at the time. My reason for thinking it was a dumb suggestion was based on not having a working, or available, network/Internet connection with which to download drivers direct from Dell. That wasn't the case for me, but it could happen...

Not including the download option, that leaves:
installing and using the Resource CD browser,
opening each driver pack on the Resource CD to find the needed one(s),
or running each driver pack at least once to "install" them to C:\Dell\drivers so they're available when needed.

Of those three options, if the drivers are not already "installed" in C:\Dell\drivers, then the easy option, barring error #339, would be to install the Resource CD and use it the way it was intended. Not to put a negative light (or shine a flash-dark) on Dell, but the HP/Compaq restore discs are, IMO, more valuable than gold! I base that on the non-Microsoft environment the recovery DVD uses and the easy to use run-from-disc (no installation required) drivers and software restore disc. I think the GUI uses a non-Microsoft widget set, too.

P.S.: My audio issue actually did require downloading the latest audio drivers (released 19/06/2007) from Dell. I discovered that in a Dell Technical Updates e-mail that arrived on the 11th, but was unaware of until yesterday.
