Remove MSN as home page in Internet Explorer. Windows XP Pro.

Can you please tell me how to change my home page in Internet Explorer from MSN to a blank screen, or Google?
I have tried to change the settings in Internet Explorer/tools/Internet Options.  I have selected blank, and entered www.google.co.uk, pressed Apply and OK. But everytime I try & re-boot MSN loads.

I have also tried deleting the MSN page loaded in C:\programs\internet explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE.  But that made no difference, MSN loaded just the same.

Surely I am not stuck with MSN. I would appreciate your advice.

Bob.

I would not select blank first. Just erase MSN and then type in the new site. Also, erase your temp files, history and the MSN cookies.

Hello Joe 53

Thanks very much for your help, the site you suggested I visited looked great, but unfortunately it has not cleared MSN. I have also cleared all the cookies, temporary files and history and tried several ways to install http://www.google.co.uk and pressed apply & ok but that has not worked. MSN are making it extremely difficult to change the home page.

Any other ideas I can try?

All the best

Bob.

surch50, do you have spybot S&d on your computer? If so go to tools >IE tweeks and make sure you have not locked the home page there.

If this is a new problem- i.e. was not present when you got your PC- then it is likely that one of your security apps has locked your home page.

What antivirus and firewall are you using?

Thanks for your patience, it is very much appreciated.
The antivirus on my laptop is provided by my Broadband provider:-   F-Secure antivirus
I only use Widows XP Professional firewall.

I'm not familiar with F-secure, but you might try booting into safe mode, and changing your home page settings there.

And if that doesn't work, there is still the option to post a HijackThis logfile in the HJT board.
