Removing partially uninstalled programs from add/remove programs
Does anyone out there know of another way to remove program entries from add/remove programs in the control panel besides going into regedit and removing it from windows/current version/uninstall? I am trying to remove Canon's Zoombrowser Camera Window application which became corrupted. I attempted to uninstall it through add and remove but it only did a partial uninstall. Now there are traces left that inform the installation CD that its already installed so it wont reinstall. Now I cant uninstall or reinstall. I have manually removed all Canon program folders then tried Regsupreme registry cleaner but it wouldn't remove the add/remove entry either. Any ideas out there????

Probably your best bet is to contact them and explain your problem:

Hi,
I have had success with these two methods, check and see if it can help you.
http://www.tweakxp.com/article139799.aspx this one will tell you how to hide/unhide the entries that are related to built-in Windows components.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q141/6/97.asp&NoWebContent=1 this link from Microsoft recommend that you use TweakUI XP to remove the entries. I have been using TweakUI for years and can't recommend it enough. Read on it, and you'll see the wonders that little program can do.
Regards,
Rick

Hey, didn't notice that.... but yeah, they seem to have removed that option from TweakUI....Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
So I guess my previous post isn't that useful now... remains the manual registry editing technique:
Delete the appropriate key under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Rick

The Uninstall folder in the Reg Editor doesnt contain the listings I want to remove so that wont work. None of the registry utility programs find them either but they still remain in the Add/Remove List.
Anyone else got an idea.

Try this program (CCleaner):
http://www.ccleaner.com/
The tools button at the top brings up a list off all your programs. There is an 'uninstall' button to run the uninstaller and a 'delete entry' button to remove it from the list if uninstall didn't work. This might be what you want.

Hmm... a resilient one that Canon Zoom browser....
Maybe try a search through the registry for "canon" and see if you can find any relevant registry keys that might be responsible and delete them... (might want to backup the registry first) ?
Or maybe try uninstalling the drivers for your Canon camera/scanner first (if possible?)...

Resilient...YES! Thats a nice way of putting it.
I just tried your recommendation of searching the registry for Canon stuff. There are hundreds. Too much to remove one by one manually. Instead I decided to try uninstalling all "Installed" Canon software through add/remove programs, then run a registry cleaner(I know, not recommended) to scan for all the Canon debris left behind. Did that, there was a lot. Then I manually looked through the software entries for both user and local machine and deleted all Canon entries there. Even after all that, the invalid entries remained in add/remove list.
Im just about to give up and live with it since everything is working just fine. Its just annoying to see all those invalid entries.
BTW, I reinstalled all the Canon software back on my computer plus updated it to version 5.0 hoping it would overwrite or contain its own uninstaller to remove the older version but that didnt work either. I DO like the newest version of Canon's Zoombrowser so not all was lost in the process.
Still looking for an answer.....
