Restore deleted program

Jump to solution

What happened was I deleted Microsoft Office 2000 Professional because I recently installed 2010 however it didn't come with Access or Outlook Express therefore I no longer can use Access and every time I went to send mail the Windows Installer popped up and tried to reinstall Office 2000. I no longer have that CD. Now that I did a system restore I don't get the windows installer pop-up any more however I still do not have access. Would you know why after doing a system restore I did not get access back?

Microsoft Access (the database program) is a component of Office 2010 Professional so it should be there.

Outlook Express is nothing to do with any version of Office. It is an email client that was included with Windows 2000 and XP. It was replaced with Windows Mail in Vista but was similar to Outlook Express. Windows 7 does not include an email client.

Most versions of Office included another email client called Outlook. This is a completely different program to Outlook Express even though both are email clients. Office 2010 Professional also includes the latest version of Outlook. So it to should be there.

If you want an email client that is similar in look to Outlook Express or early versions of Office Outlook then try Mozilla Thunderbird. Which is free.

Although System Restore can restore back to an earlier time, with a deleted/uninstalled program many times not all of the program or associated files is also restored.  You would have to do a reinstall from the CD to get everything back.

Since you don't have the disc, suggest you try the free Open Office suite of programs that are comparable and compatible with MS Office. www.openoffice.org    If that doesn't work for you, the only other option is to try and buy a copy of Office 2000, however as it has been discontinued for many years that may be a problem.

Thank you for your response. My Outlook Express is working fine now however my version of Office 2010 is not professional therefore did not come with Access. Also the version I deleted was an old version 2000 which was configured to my database. I downloaded a free version of 2007, at least I think it's free...........maybe it's a trial because it asked for my product key of which of course I don't have. I have access to my database once again but who knows for how long.

It won't be free. There are no free copies of Microsoft Office of whatever vintage.

I assume you mean that your Access 2000 was configured to launch a specific database. The database files with the data sholud still be wherever you located them on your computer in the first place.

I figured it wouldn't be a free copy however it's working for the time being until I find someone who has a copy of it..........and yes my database files are where they've always been. I just kick myself for deleting Office 2000 after installing 2010 home edition not thinking it didn't come with Access.
